Meet the Barry Park Tennis Teaching Staff

Assistant Tennis Professional
Mike Merchant

Mike is a recent graduate of Park Hill High School and competed at the varsity level on the Park Hill Men's Tennis Team all four years. He served as team co-captain his junior year and captain his senior year. He participated on three elite-eight teams and advanced to the individual Missouri High School State Tennis Tournament the last two seasons. In the Fall, he will be attending Truman State University on a tennis scholarship. He has participated in Barry Park Tennis Clinics for 5 years and brings brings a wealth of tennis knowledge to the program as well as a passion for teaching tennis. Please welcome Mike Merchant!

Josh Boling

Josh is a graduate of Park Hill South High School and played all four years of varsity tennis (two years at Fort Osage and two years at Park Hill South). He attends Missouri Valley College on a tennis scholarship. This is his second summer teaching tennis at Barry Park and he also brings great knowledge to our summer program! Please welcome Josh Boling!

Tim Kalis

Tim is a graduate of Linn-Mar High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. While at Linn-Mar, he competed at the varsity level all four years. He participated and captained two elite-eight teams and advanced to the individual state tournament his senior year. He then competed for the University of Northern Iowa Men's Tennis Team for four years. Tim became the head tennis director at Bowman Woods Swim & Racquet Club in 1996 and directed the tennis program until graduating from UNI in 2002. He is currently a 7th grade mathematics teacher at Congress Middle School and coaches both the men's and women's tennis teams at Park Hill High School. He has taught at Midtown Tennis Club in Overland Park, KS and currently is an assistant tennis professional at Clayview Country Club in Liberty during the winter months. Tim returns as the head tennis professional at Barry Park.
