Summer 2012

Barry Park Summer Tennis Clinics: 

AGE IS A GUIDE; STUDENTS MAY ALSO BE ORGANIZED DUE TO STRENGTH. IMPORTANT EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT: STUDENTS MUST BRING A RACQUET AND A NEW-UNOPENED CAN OF TENNIS BALLS TO THE FIRST LESSON AND COME PREPARED WITH COMFORTABLE CLOTHING, WATER BOTTLE AND SUNSCREEN.

Tiny Tots: Age 4-5 ($45) CH60: 6/11, 3 wks, Mon and Wed, 5:45-6:15 PM, Barry Park Tennis Courts, Barry Road and North Congress, Barry Park Tennis Clinic Instructors (Deadline: 6/7); Your child’s first or second experience on a tennis court. An informal environment where your child will learn the basic elements of tennis with specially designed equipment and professional instruction to assure a positive, successful and fun experience. The focus will be on establishing a foundation for gross motor skill development. Children will learn to receive and send the ball with their hands as well as their racquets. Your child will love it even more if they take the clinic with a friend or two!!

Little Smashers: Age 6-7 ($45) CH61: 6/11, 3 wks, Mon and Wed, 6:30-7 PM, Barry Park Tennis Courts, Barry Road and North Congress, Barry Park Tennis Clinic Instructors (Deadline: 6/7); Little Smashers is for students who have attached some of the basic skills. A program of movement, balance, coordinated and motor skill development with a focus on self and partner rallying skills on the 36’ court. Both reception and projection activities will be emphasized. Children will continue to work on the basic elements of tennis while learning more advanced skills.

Beginner: Age 8-10 ($75) CH62: 6/11, 3 wks, Mon and Wed, 4-5 PM Barry Park Tennis Courts, Barry Road and North Congress, Barry Park Tennis Clinic Instructors (Deadline: 6/7); Introduce your child to tennis in our beginner level clinics. Learn the proper technique for groundstrokes, volleys, and serves. Your child will learn the basic body movement and some footwork while learning to track and judge the bounce of the ball.

Intermediate: Age 8-10 ($75) CH64: 6/11, 3 wks, Mon and Wed, 4-5 PM, Barry Park Tennis Courts, Barry Road and North Congress, Barry Park Tennis Clinic Instructors (Deadline: 6/7); This class reinforces proper technique already learned in the Beginner clinic (at Barry Park or another program). Students will continue to work on the serve and basic concepts of singles, doubles, and the rules of playing tennis. Requires knowledge of forehand, backhand, and serve. Must be able to keep score and consistently put an overhead serve in play.

Beginner: Age 11+ ($75) CH63: 6/11, 3 wks, Mon and Wed, 3-4 PM Barry Park Tennis Courts, Barry Road and North Congress, Barry Park Tennis Clinic Instructors (Deadline: 6/7); Introduce your child to tennis in our beginner level clinics. No previous knowledge of the game is necessary. Learn the proper technique for groundstrokes, volleys, and serves. Your child will learn the basic body movement and some footwork while learning to track and judge the bounce of the ball.

Intermediate: Age 11+ ($75) CH65: 6/11, 3 wks, Mon and Wed, 3-4 PM, Barry Park Tennis Courts, Barry Road and North Congress, Barry Park Tennis Clinic Instructors (Deadline: 6/7); This class reinforces proper technique already learned in the Beginner clinic (at Barry Park or another program). Tennis Academy: Age 13-18 ($75) CH66: 6/11, 3 wks, Mon and Wed, 2-3 PM. Barry Park Tennis Courts, Barry Road and North Congress, Barry Park Tennis Clinic Instructors (Deadline: 6/7); Academy builds on the fundamental techniques established in the Intermediate clinic. A step-up in commitment and intensity. Academy serves as a great clinic/class for players who aspire to secure a spot on their high school team. The clinic will emphasize the following: stroke development and footwork; an introduction to winning strategies and tactics; as well sportsmanship and teamwork through a challenging combination of situational live ball drills and dead ball feeding. Academy would be a good fit for a high school upper level novice player and junior varsity level players.
